Imported vs Local Plantation Shutters
Imported shutters can offer exceptional value when they come from a large specialist manufacturer with proven quality controls. Rather than focusing on the country of manufacture alone, we inspect the specification, consistency, warranty and the value you receive. Our overseas manufacturing partner operates at enormous scale, producing hundreds of thousands of shutters each year for clients across major international markets.
What to compare
Avoid judging plantation shutters by country of manufacture alone. Compare the material specification, internal reinforcement, finish consistency, hardware, frame system, manufacturing tolerances, quality control, warranty and price.
Price is one of the biggest advantages of imported shutters. A high-volume specialist factory can spread tooling, machinery, labour and overhead across an enormous production volume, while sourcing directly from the manufacturer removes additional wholesaler and distributor margins.
- Material and construction method.
- Panel and louvre rigidity.
- Internal reinforcement and structural stability.
- Paint or surface-finish consistency.
- Hardware, frames and configuration options.
- Manufacturing tolerances and quality-control processes.
- Warranty and after-sales support.
- Like-for-like finished price.
Manufacturing scale
Our manufacturing partner supplies a global market and produces hundreds of thousands of shutters each year for clients across major markets including the US, UK and Europe.
That scale brings advantages that are challenging for a small local factory to reproduce. Dedicated machinery, established production lines, bulk purchasing and highly repeatable manufacturing processes allow a specialist factory to produce shutters efficiently and consistently.
Large-scale manufacture is therefore not necessarily a compromise. In many cases, it is one of the reasons an imported shutter can combine a high specification with a much lower price.
Better value for money
A lower imported price doesn’t automatically mean a lower-quality shutter. Much of the price difference comes from economies of scale, lower manufacturing costs and a more efficient supply chain.
By buying directly from a specialist manufacturer and using a Trade measuring and installation model, unnecessary layers of cost are removed. When you compare shutters like for like, this means you can get a high-quality, custom-made shutter for considerably less than an equivalent product manufactured locally.
Quality matters more than where it is made
“Locally made” doesn’t automatically mean better quality, just as “imported” doesn’t mean inferior quality. What matters is the material, engineering, manufacturing consistency, quality control and warranty behind the finished shutter.
Our shutters are produced to a defined specification and backed by a 10-year warranty. For our PVC range, the shutter uses a waterproof PVC construction with internal aluminium reinforcement to add strength and help prevent bowing. PVC shutters are designed for interior use only and aren’t suitable for exterior installation outside the home.
Local support without the local manufacturing premium
Imported manufacturing doesn’t mean you are left dealing with an overseas factory. You still deal with National Trade Blinds for product selection, measuring instructions, order support, installation information and after-sales assistance.
This gives you the advantage of large-scale specialist manufacturing and competitive pricing, while retaining local support throughout your project.
