Adjusting Plantation Shutter Panels
Small installation adjustments can correct out-of-square panel gaps, rubbing or panels that don’t sit neatly in the frame.
Confirm the frame first
Panel problems are often caused by the frame being slightly out of square. Check level, plumb and diagonal dimensions before altering hardware.
Use packing at fixing points
If the wall or recess is out-of-square, loosen the applicable fixing, add or eliminate a packer and retighten gradually. Watch how the panel gap changes.
Check hinges
Confirm hinge screws are seated and the hinge leaves are aligned. Only make small adjustments at a time.
Louvre tension
If the shutter system incorporates an adjustment for louvre tension, use it sparingly. The louvres should stay where located without becoming challenging to tilt.
Do not force a rubbing panel
Repeatedly forcing the panel can damage the finish or hardware. Stop and correct the alignment instead.
