Check the opening before you measure

Have you decided how your curtains will be fitted?

Before you measure, it’s worth taking a moment to think about how your curtains will sit in the space. A few small details can make a big difference to the final look.

Check if the room has cornices.

Curtains may be fitted to the wall or tucked neatly inside your cornices on the ceiling, based on the look you prefer.

Check what surface your curtains will be fixed to.

Our curtains can be fixed to most surfaces, but it’s important to check what you’re attaching into before you start. Wall studs and ceiling battens are typically the easiest and most secure fixing points.

Get Free Samples Delivered

Nothing beats seeing the fabric in your own home. Order free samples to compare colours, textures and finishes before making your final decision.

Not all curtain tracks are suitable for curved installations.

Curved curtain tracks are available exclusively in our standard designer and motorised track profiles. Half-moon tracks aren’t available for curved sections. To achieve a coordinated look with half-moon ceiling tracks, select butting tracks instead. These must be ordered through the standard curtain product page, instead of the curved curtain section. The compatible curved track profile will be clearly displayed on the curved curtain product page.

Have you checked the angle of each corner?

Our curved tracks suit 90° corners with 45° corners available through our Box & Bay Curtains range. Tracks can also be made for multiple or custom-angle corners. For more than two bends or angles other than 45° or 90°, please contact trade support and we’ll help with measuring and ordering.

Select a ceiling fit or wall fit to get started.

Ceiling fit

Track fixed overhead

Use this when the track will mount to the ceiling or inside the cornice for a full-height finish.

Fixing point
Secure into ceiling battens or another suitable structural substrate.
Width reference
Measure wall to wall, or between the exact planned track ends.
Drop reference
Measure from the ceiling or track line to the floor at left, centre and right; use the largest reading.
Wall fit

Track fixed above the opening

Use this when the track will face-fix to the wall, rather than hang from the ceiling.

Fixing point
Secure into wall studs or a suitable concrete, brick, stone or tiled surface.
Width reference
Mark the finished track span, including the required side coverage and stacking space.
Drop & splits
Measure from the planned track height and record any custom split or opening positions from the chosen track start.
Applies to either fit

After choosing the mounting position, the same product options remain available: manual or motorised operation; sheer, blockout, lined or double layers; stack and opening direction; track colour and operation; heading, hem and finished-drop style; and the required wand length.

Choose the installation route, then follow every numbered step in sequence.

Alright, it’s time to start measuring. We’ll guide you through it step by step.

1

Check Your Corner Angles

Confirm that your corner is a precise 90° right angle. To confirm, place an A4 sheet of paper into the corner—if it fits snugly against both sides, your corner is 90°. The same applies when wrapping your track around an outside corner.

If you require a curved track with more than 2 bends, please contact trade support.

If your angles differ from 90° or you’re unsure, get in touch and we’ll support you measure properly. For 45 degree bay windows, please visit The box bay curtain measure guide.

2

Find Your Width Dimension

2a.

Remember to note whether your curtains will fit into the corner or wrap around it, as you’ll select this option when ordering.

Then proceed to Step 2B for wall-to-wall curtains, or Step 2C for curtains framing your corner window.

2b.

To measure for wall-to-wall curtains on both sides of your corner, follow these steps:

  1. Measure from the corner to the left wall and record the dimension.

  2. Measure from the corner to the right wall and record the dimension.

Where the opening has cornices, measure from the inside edge of the cornice. These two dimensions will determine your track width.

For wall-to-wall windows or doors, allow approximately 30% of the track width for a one-way curtain stack, or approximately 15% on each side for a centre-opening curtain.

There’s no need to make any allowance for the curved section of the track or calculate the fabric needed — we’ll take care of that for you.

2c.

To measure for curtains that frame your corner window, follow these steps:

  1. Measure from the corner to the outside edge of the left window frame or recess and record the dimension.

  2. Measure from the corner to the outside edge of the right window frame or recess and record the dimension.

Where the opening has cornices, measure from the inside edge of the cornice.

Add at least 30% to both dimensions to allow the curtains to stack clear of the glass. These adjusted dimensions will determine your track width.

Confirm there is enough wall space to accommodate the extended track width.

There’s no need to make any allowance for the curved section of the track or calculate the fabric needed — we’ll take care of that for you.

3

Find Your Width Dimension

3a.

Take note of whether the curtains will fit into or wrap around each corner. You’ll select your preference for each corner when ordering.

Then proceed to Step 3B for wall-to-wall curtains, or Step 3C for curtains framing the left and right windows.

3b.

To measure for wall-to-wall curtains across all three sides, follow these steps:

  1. Measure the ceiling width from the left corner to the left wall and record it.

  2. Measure the ceiling width across the middle section and record it.

  3. Measure from the right corner to the right wall and record it.

Where the opening has cornices, measure from the inside edge of the cornice. These three dimensions will determine your track width.

For wall-to-wall windows or doors, allow approximately 30% of the track width for a one-way curtain stack, or approximately 15% on each side for a centre-opening curtain.

There’s no need to make allowances for the curved sections of the track or calculate the fabric needed — we’ll take care of that according to your track dimensions.

3c.

To measure for curtains that frame your left and right windows, follow these steps:

  1. Measure from the left corner to the outside edge of the left window frame or recess and record the dimension.

  2. Measure across the middle section and record this dimension.

  3. Measure from the right corner to the outside edge of the right window frame or recess and record it.

Where the opening has cornices, measure from the inside edge of the cornice.

To allow the curtains to stack clear of the glass, add at least 30% to the left and right dimensions. These adjusted dimensions, together with the original middle dimension, will determine your track width.

Confirm there is enough wall space to accommodate the extended left and right track sections.

There’s no need to make allowances for the curved sections of the track or calculate the fabric needed — we’ll take care of that for you.

4

Select Your Split Points (Optional)

For multiple openings, you can select up to 2 splits and specify exactly where you’d like them located. Splits are ideal for sliding and bi-fold doors, making it simpler to access different sections.

Select the number of splits needed and which side of your corner window they should be placed on. If you don’t provide split positions, we’ll space them evenly for you.

If you don’t require any splits, proceed to Step 5.

For a single custom split, measure from the left side to the precise split position and record the dimension. Confirm you measure along the section of wall where the split will be located.

If the split is on the left section and your curtains are framing the window*, measure from where the track will begin on the ceiling, instead of from the wall edge. This ensures the split position is measured accurately.

*Do not use this method for wall-to-wall curtains. It only applies when framing the window.

For two custom splits, measure from the left side to each split position and record both dimensions. Confirm you measure along the section of wall where each split will be located.

If one or both splits are on the left section and your curtains are framing the window*, measure from where the track will begin on the ceiling, instead of from the wall edge.

Do not use this method for wall-to-wall curtains. It only applies when framing the window.*

5

Find your drop dimension

To measure the curtain drop, follow the steps below:

For a single corner:

  1. Measure from the ceiling to the floor on the left side, in the corner, and on the right side. Where the opening has cornices, measure from the inside edge of the cornice.

  2. Record the largest dimension.

For two corners:

  1. Measure from the ceiling to the floor on the left, middle, and right sections. Where the opening has cornices, measure from the inside edge of the cornice.

  2. Record the largest dimension.

If the difference between the three dimensions is greater than 10 mm, select a puddled finish.

6

Select your preferred finish.

When designing and ordering your curtains, select from the three finish options below.

Enter your precise dimensions only. There’s no need to make any deductions or additions, as we’ll adjust your dimensions to achieve the right finish.

If you select Just Off the Floor, your curtains will be made approximately 5–10 mm shorter than your drop dimension, so they sit just above the floor.

If you select Touching the Floor, your curtains will gently skim the floor by up to 5 mm.

If you select Puddling, your curtains will puddle on the floor by approximately 20 mm. For a larger puddle, please leave a note in the comments section at checkout.

6

Select your stacking, and track flow.

Select the wand size you need. As a guide, the longer your curtain drop, the longer your wand should be for straightforward reach and everyday use.

Next, select your preferred stacking style: left stack, right stack, centre opening, or multiple openings. Consider which side is easiest to access, whether there are any obstructions, and which part of the window or door you’ll use most often.

Finally, select between a fixed flow track and a free flow track. A free flow track gives you complete flexibility to move and stack your curtains as you like.

Do not use this method for wall-to-wall curtains. It only applies when framing the window.

5

Mark the starting dimension

Use a pencil to measure and mark where your curtains will begin, indicating the position of the top of the curtain track. Use the ceiling or window frame as a guide to keep the track level across the entire width. For maximum support and stability, our trade team recommends fixing the curtain track into wall studs wherever possible.

6

Find your drop dimension

For single-corner or two-corner windows, measure from where the curtains will hang down to the floor at three points across the window area. For a single corner, measure the left wall, the corner, and the right wall. For two corners, measure the left, middle, and right walls.

Record the largest of the three dimensions as your curtain drop. If there is more than a 10 mm difference between the dimensions, consider opting for puddling to accommodate the out-of-square floor level.

7

Select your preferred finish.

When designing and ordering your curtains, select from the three finish options below.

Enter your precise dimensions only. There’s no need to make any deductions or additions, as we’ll adjust your dimensions to achieve the right finish.
